Does a pay-per-lead marketing approach work?
I’ve been approached by a business that charges per lead referred to me, not per click and not a flat monthly fee. I think this sounds like a great approach to only pay for new warm leads but want to know if anyone has personal experience (good and/or bad) with this type of approach.

Depending on the type of business you do. I’m in lead generation in the marketing department of the company that I work for. Understand that what they’re selling you are contacts not leads. A lead is a person who has taken the initiative at an activity that makes them a prospect. If this company is selling you leads, I would ask, what is it that they measure to qualify these as leads. If they stand behind the lead terminology, then ask how these leads are rated. Hot, warm, cold. And again, how they measure these ratings.
In B2B, we purchase contacts lists so that we can market to them. Then, when the contact has initiated an activity, it is then considered a lead.

Depends on how many people the leads are being resold too… Don’t think that you are the only one receiving these leads.. unless they are relatively expensive. It depends upon the industry. I would need more info, but I would say that you should consider this to be a targeted lead, not a warm lead… if that distinction is clear. Some pay per lead companies that I have dealt with have resold the same lead up to 10 times… but that is in real estate and education.. and the leads are still worth the price sometimes. you just have to find the right service. Split your budget between several lead selling services and choose the one that has the highest conversion rate.

I work in insurance, and pay for leads on a regular basis. One thing to ask, is how many other people are receiving duplicates. Reason being, what good is a lead, with too much traffic! My leads are 2-1 ratio.Meaning me,and ONE other person gets them! They are continually hot, and good!
